I have always found writing to be a helpful way to clear my mind and connect with my emotions. Throughout my recovery, poetry has become an especially valuable creative outlet. I enjoy spending time by the sea or in nature, playing with words that inspire me and weaving them into rhyme.

Pretty Seashell was the first poem I wrote—and still my shortest! Writing it helped me through a difficult and lonely period in my life. I still have the seashell I picked up that day, which continues to remind me of the comfort and inspiration I found in that moment.

Pretty little seashell, sitting on the shore.

Where have you come from, please tell us more!

Have you travelled very far? Was your journey hard?

Did you always have this shape? Or were you badly scarred?

Do you have seashell friends? Or mainly just the stones?

It’s a shame you cannot tell us, for you have no flesh nor bones.

No matter where you've come from, you're as beautiful as can be.
